The U.S.S. Voyager was transported 70,000 light-years into
the Delta quadrant by a species called the Caretaker or the Nacene. This was the beginning of a seven year long journey through
the galaxy's only uncharted quadrant.
The Delta Quadrant is one quarter of the Milky Way Galaxy using
the Federation method of Stellar Cartography. It's located in the upper right corner of the galaxy.
Starfleet Command had little knowledge of this quadrant at the
time and assumed the crew of voyager lost until the crew managed to use an old array network to contact Starfleet Command
in 2374. When the array network was destroyed, the crew feared that they would never hear from Starfleet or their families
again. Starfleet command managed to contact Voyager through the project pathfinder led by Reginald Barclay in 2376. This opened
the possibility for the crew to contact Starfleet headquarters and their families if needed.
Janeway picked up a few new crewmembers from the Delta quadrant.
Neelix and Kes signed on in 2371 after the crew helped rescue Kes from the Kazon. In 2374 they encountered The Borg and helped Seven of Nine -tertiary adjunct to unimatrix 01 (or just plain Seven) to regain
her humanity after being assimilated by the Borg approximately 20 years earlier. Other species that originates from the Delta
Quadrant include the Vidiian, Talaxians, Ocampa, Malon and the Hirogen. Click on the map to the right to find out more about the different
species Voyager encountered in the Delta Quadrant.
Other vessels pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker's
coherent tetryon beam includes The Equinox and the Cardassian missile Dreadnought. Records of The Raven show that Seven's
parents, who were exobiologists doing research about the Borg, had entered the Delta Quadrant when the entire family was assimilated.
